There have been several rumors about a possible iPhone nano of late, most of them because of leaked images of nano cases. Most of these have been discounted, although nano references on the site of a reputable case maker increased the speculation. But on Wednesday an analyst for it believes that Apple is gearing up to release several new products during the first half of 2009, including the so-called iPhone nano.

In the years that followed, many BitTorrent sites specializing in adult content gained millions of visitors, but in the past year, usage has dropped. BitTorrent and porn go hand in hand, so to speak. Researchers want to know how teens in Sweden develop their morals and social norms through websites like MySpace and ThePirateBay. Over the years, ThePirateBay developers have gone from having a single BitTorrent website to a multi-purpose website that has been subject to anything from overall praise to illegal attacks from anti-piracy organizations. Now, its drawing interest from researchers who appear to be in the field of sociology. “We’re going to try to see if there are social patterns which legislation and state powers normally don’t see and don’t address,” said Måns Svensson from Lund University’s department of sociology of law to the Sydsvenskan newspaper. More from TheLocal: “We have a theory that there are processes for building norms on the internet which look different than those which take place in traditional society and that they are moving in a different direction than where the majority of society and legislation are headed,” said Svensson.

Bayou Internet and Communications owner Jerry Scroggin says the entertainment industry cant expect him to work for free. Last week the RIAA made headlines by announcing that it was going to quit suing individual file-sharers and instead begin targeting their Internet connections with assistance from ISPs. Now one ISP is saying that this assistance isnt free and the entertainment industry better expect to pay for enforcement of copyright protection on its network. Jerry Scroggin, owner-operator of Bayou Internet and Communications, wants the entertainment industry to know that policing P2P users costs both time and money. Each time he receives a DMCA notice asking him to disconnect a suspected file-sharer from his network he sends the same reply.

"Miss Doris" claims to have met me on the BitTorrent tracker site, and is simply searching "for a good man who understands what sex, marriage, and real love is all about." Who says BitTorrent cant bring people together? We all get spam each day from supposed desperate oil barons, princes, and former kings all looking for our help in regaining their lost fortunes, but how about ones that try to lure you in with tales of love and friendship using alleged contacts in a BitTorrent tracker site forum? Gmail does a great job filtering out what should be an endless parade of spam trouncing otherwise important correspondence, just ask anyone who uses Yahoo or Hotmail what thats like. But, every once in a while a piece of spam does get through and its usually of the pretty creative type having been successful in beating Gmails diligent spam police. This was the case for the one that reads as follows from "Miss Doris," glaring poor punctuation, misspellings, and all: Dear Friend, how are you?I find you on ww.isohunt.

Just about everything is quick on the internet unless youre a Canadian and have a complaint about a telecommunications giant. For those who thought that the new complaints commission in Canada was a marvelous plan that would go off without a hitch, they may want to hit the back button on this next story. A CBC reporter wanted to find out how effective the Commissioner for Complaints for Telecommunications Services (CCTS), so he spent 8 months to investigate and recorded the results and, to the casual observer, the results dont exactly appear to show a road paved with gold. From the report: The CCTS was set up to protect consumers in the wake of deregulation of the industry and a subsequent declawing of the Canadian Radio-television and Television Commission. It continues to be an obscure organization, largely because a promotional campaign, demanded months ago by the CRTC, has yet to materialize.

It may very well be one of the most well-known file-sharing cases of 2008 and as the year comes to a close, it seems only fitting that the entire transcript has been posted. A recent posting on Recording Industry vs. People shows the transcript of the Capital Records vs. Jammie Thomas case. The transcripts arent exactly made for quick reading with over 500 pages of content, but, as Ray Beckerman notes, it might prove to be a treasure trove for future file-sharing cases.
Published : 2008-12-29 Source : www.zeropaid.com - RIAA Loses Ability to Appeal in Jammie Thomas Case
The Jammie Thomas case has recently took a turn for the worse for the RIAA. Is merely putting a song in a shared folder copyright infringement in the United States? Thats what the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) was hoping for, but at seemingly the last possible moment, the precedent that would dictate such has slipped through the RIAAs fingers. Ray Beckermans blog, Recording Industry vs. People, notes that the RIAA has lost the motion for an interlocutory appeal. Such an appeal in this case would have granted the RIAA, essentially, permission to appeal the judges decision that suggested that he improperly instructed the jurors during the initial Jammie Thomas case to consider that copyrighted song files in a shared directory was considered illegal.

While its something occurring in Britain, it also could affect talks between Britain and the United States too. Controversy erupted yesterday over a plan to classify internet websites in an effort to supposedly "save the children". Now, Open Rights Group is pointing out that a British MP is now seeking feedback on the proposal. Since Britain is already negotiating with the Obama administration over bringing the idea to the United States as well, it will likely be of interest to American internet users as well. While it seems rather odd that an MP who admits that internet policy is not his speciality is in charge of public feedback, at least someone is trying to limit the damage done by the negotiate with other countries first, ask questions later style of legislating.

Beta testers and some media outlets have apparently had access to Windows 7 for some time now, but the recent beta release of Microsofts next generation operating system has been leaked onto BitTorrent sites like The Pirate Bay. The New Zealand Morning Herald reported on the story recently. From the report: A few leaked copies of the early alpha build did the P2P rounds in December. And now the Build 7000 version of the new system has found its way onto the file sharing network BitTorrent, making it available for anyone to download.

Britain and the United States next in line to filter the internet while saying the internet is nothing more than a broadcaster? Last week, we posted a relatively thorough piece on why the internet should not be considered little more than a broadcaster mainly because we saw the government using the description to push internet censorship legislation. Now it seems as though even more governments around the world are using the argument that the internet is little more than a broadcaster excuse to pass censorship legislation - and one of the next governments to use these arguments could be the government of the United States. The latest wave of attempts to control the internet seems to be finally catching a headline or two in mainstream news outlets. The CBC is reporting that the British culture minister is in talks with Obama to implement a ratings system that is similar to that of normal film ratings. With this sort of system, it is being suggested that there should be legislation that forces ISPs to offer filtering technology to their customers.

It may be another way to prove the futility of an internet blacklist mandated by the government. With governments like Britain and Australia pushing for blacklisting websites under the guise of "protecting the children", it seems as though the leaking of Thailand website blacklist couldnt have come at a better time. The report from Wikileaks coupled with a link to the proof that the blacklist was leaked says that over 1,203 webpages were blocked for political reasons. Of the web pages blocked, over 800 were YouTube clips as well as an additional 200 mirrors of the videos in question. Some of the videos in question were US presidential candidate campaign videos.
