- T-Mobile, Vodafone Point to Apple for iPhones 3G Problems
The finger-pointing has begun. Much has been made over the iPhones 3G connectivity issues on AT&Ts network, and some (including me) have pointed to the fact that AT&Ts 3G network performance isnt exactly stellar. Of course, that doesnt mean its still not an Apple issue. T-Mobile, on the other hand, made no bones about it: the issue lies with the iPhone 3G itself, either in software or hardware.

Earlier this week, I wrote about the conflict between Russia and Georgia, and how Georgia had turned to Googles Blogger service to keep the outside world up-to-date on government updates. While initial speculation was that Russia was behind the DDoS attacks on Georgian sites (which are still down, BTW), at least one researcher is not quite so sure.

I have a question: why are all these researchers and carriers who believe they have pinpointed the iPhones 3G reception problem in Europe (forcing me to use translation software, too)? While theres no answer to that question, a Swedish scientist seems to think he has the answer to poor 3G performance on the iPhone 3G: poor signal sensitivity.

More and more people are lining up to challenge the anti-investigative activities of Media Sentry, the anti-piracy company employed by the RIAA in its fight against illegal file-sharing, due to the fact that it lacks the private investigative license required in most states to legally conduct such efforts. Lawsuit notes that Universal "incurs practically no expenses or risks to create and distribute digital downloads yet UMG reaps millions of dollars every year from such exploitation." The Allman Brothers Band have decided to sue Universal Music for more than $10 million USD over royalties from CD sales and digital downloads services, reports Reuters. The lawsuit, filed in Manhattan federal court, said UMG "refuses to pay Plaintiffs at the correct royalty rate for its digital exploitation of the Capricorn Masters," including from CDs, digital downloads and ringtones. The lawsuit centers around a 1985 agreement between the band and Polygram, which Universal later bought, that said the band would be paid half of the profits on any other commercial usage not specified in the agreement like the sale of music downloads on Apples iTunes for example. "UMG incurs practically no expenses or risks in connection with the Masters, particularly with respect to licensing other companies such as Apple to create and distribute digital downloads .
